Regional Narrative Proposal

Background to understand my narrative:

My parents were both born in Africa and so was I; but ever since I have been little, I have always traveled around due to the work my dad does. He is part of the “World Bank” which is an international organization whose main job is to provide loans to developing programs to developing countries. Because of this fact, I have been privilege to accompany my dad on certain missions and of course where he would actually work were in horrible conditions but where he would take me where the areas to be in…the typical touristic places. I say this because it ties in to the fact that while we were living in Africa, of course there were areas in poor conditions but due to our status/class, I never lived nor saw such areas.

Story: My narrative will be more personal because it has to do with the first time I went to visit my parents’ native village when I was 9 years old. I will focus on how shock I was to be in an environment where people didn’t know what it meant to take showers in a bathroom instead had to carry buckets of water from a nearby river. I will focus on how shocked I was to see kids walking to go class with torn shoes. Overall, what my story will be about will be about how easy it could be to feel as if the whole world around you is privilege until you are forced to step in someone’s life and place who all they know and see everyday is based on struggle.

Purpose/argument: I guess my purpose for this narrative is to demonstrate to my audience how it is easy for a place-an environment to shape the way you view the world around you.

There are so many directions I could go for this paper so I know I will have to narrow down on those key moments that will demonstrate a culture shock so that the readers will feel/see the purpose I have mentioned above.

Audience: The audience for this story as of now is my family because I don’t really know who I want to target it too yet so I will see as I develop the narrative.
